Job: seeking a performer who identifies as Arab or Muslim
*Trinacria Theatre Company* is looking for one performer to join the cast of Hades and Persephone Project for 2 weeks of R&D and three performances. PAID JOB.
The project: This devised piece uses three Sicilian myths of interracial romance as its starting point, all three of which have left an indelible mark on Sicilian culture. The stories of Hades & Persephone, Mata &Grifone, and Lisabetta& Lorenzo each focus on the forbidden love between a white Sicilian woman and a dark-skinned stranger from another land. Many times they are seen are reincarnations of one another, but their story grows more troubled and violent with the passing of time. Who are these two figures and why does their story of obstructed love echo so loudly on this island, where the tension between natives and newcomers has always run high?
Auditions will be held at LAMDA (155 Talgarth Road, London W14 9DA) on March 21st from 2:30pm – 4:00pm and from 4:00pm to 5.30pm (two slots).
The audition will be a 90-minute workshop and you will be asked to complete a serious of ensemble-based devised theatre exercises inspired by the piece. A basic familiarity with the three stories is helpful (visit www.trinacriatheatre.com/the-hades-and-persephone-project). We may also conduct short one-on-one interviews to find out more about your interests, special skills, and relevant experiences.
Who we are looking for: A devised performer to join our ensemble for an R&D, concluding with public workshop performances. As this piece is an ongoing work in progress, the ideal applicant is an openhearted collaborator who will contribute creatively and holistically to the devised process.
Ethnicity: Our stories deal with racial and religious tensions in Sicily between Norman Christians and Arab Muslims. As such, we are specifically seeking a performer who identifies as Arab or Muslim, sees their heritage represented in these stories, and is comfortable working with these topics.
Age: All ages welcome.
Gender: All genders welcome.
Required skills: Experience devising, excellent movement abilities, collaborative spirit.
Desirable but not required: Musical ability (vocal or instrumental), any spoken languages besides English.
